World Bank to Celebrate Youth Creativity in Combating Climate Change at Special Event- Connect4Climate: Right Here, Right Now

 

WASHINGTON, February 26, 2012 – Media are cordially invited to join World Bank President Jim Yong Kim, theItalian Minister of the Environment Corrado Clini, Sustainable Development Network Vice President Rachel Kyte, External Affairs Vice President Cyril Muller, Africa Vice President Makhtar Diop, and the Global Environment Facility’s CEO and Chairperson Dr. Naoko Ishii, for Connect4Climate: Right Here, Right Now –  an evening to celebrate creative youth engagement in the effort to combat climate change.

 

The event, organized in collaboration with MTV and Artists Project Earth (APE), a United Kingdom-based environmental and arts NGO dedicated to climate change advocacy and action, will feature:

 

  • A keynote address by President Kim,
  • Remarks by Italian Minister of Environment Corrado Clini
  • Remarks by Nobel Peace Prize laureate Betty Williams
  • The announcement of the winners of the Connect4Climate/MTV ‘Voices4Climate’  photo, video and music competition awards, selected from over 1000 entries received from youth from over 100 countries around the world
  • The launch of a special Connect4Climate edition of Rhythms del Mundo: Africa  –  a charity music CD (featuring Eminem, Beyonce, Coldplay, Bruno Mars, and many others)  –  and live performances by Kenyan rappers TS1,award-winning Malian musician Rokia Traore, and a live DJ set from MTV’s Izzy Lawrence.

 

There will be a photo opportunity with all the participants at the beginning of the event.
