NEW MUSIC VIDEO DIRECTED BY
BEN CHARLES EDWARDS
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE New York, NY (October 20, 2017) - Findlay has just released the official video for “Monomania,” from her debut studio album Forgotten Pleasures. In the video, director Ben Charles Edwards creates an upbeat nighttime Lynchian journey in 16mm, showing Findlay and a mysterious man driving down a deserted street while witnessing a relationship unfold outside their car. The same couple seems to haunt their journey – the extreme highs, the real lows, the in-betweens that beg to justify the latter.
"This song is about the overwhelming obsession that comes with unrequited love,” explains Findlay. “When you love someone so much you become manic and it's the only thing you can think about. I think love like that comes along so infrequently you have to jump on it and pray for the best outcome. I've been lucky enough to have the love I put out come back to me this time but I've been on the wrong side of it too many times... I guess this song is a homage to all the ones who got away."
Named by the press as the next Terry Gilliam, Ben Charles Edwards has made a name for himself through his avant-garde short films featuring artists such as Boy George, Zandra Rhodes, Kelly Osbourne, Sadie Frost and Carl Barat, among many others. Edwards most recently directed one of V Magazine’s top music videos of 2016 and is said to have “crafted distinctive, admirable work that seems to have emerged from the unseen margins of British cinema." - British Film Institute.
Often compared to a mix between PJ Harvey and the Kills Alison Mosshart, Findlay courageously blends the male-dominated rock sound of yesteryear with the indomitable spirit of a girl who isn’t to be reckoned with. Findlay’s list of conquests includes recently sharing the stage with Iggy Pop, playing Glastonbury, Isle of Wight festival and supporting Miles Kane, Brandon Flowers, Jake Bugg and Karen Elson. She composes alone, mostly on guitar, sometimes piano, or turns her voice and words into drum rhythms to serve as a canvas whilst visiting genres from 90s grunge and garage pop, to shoegaze and hip hop.
Findlay’s debut album Forgotten Pleasures is out now via BMG/The End Records and features co-producer Jules Apollinaire on guitar/keys, Ben Simon on guitar, and Christina Lamas on drums. The album also sees a collaboration with Carl Barat of the Libertines, as well as producers Jake Gosling (The Libertines, Ed Sheeran, Shawn Mendes) and Flood (Nick Cave, Depeche Mode, Smashing Pumpkins, U2, The Killers). The album is available everywhere.
