“This is passionate, high-energy music, and the band behind [Kim] Benzie just kills it.”
– 4/5

“Stylistically impressive, technically proficient, thematically intriguing and expertly produced barely begin to scratch the surface when describing the record. After a single play through, you’ll understand why Dead Letter Circus have crafted my album of the year (so far). – 9/10

New York, NY – (October 29, 2013) – Australian megastars Dead Letter Circus are unlike any rock band to emerge in years. Watching someone on their first listen to the alternative rock breakthroughs searching to come up with a neat description is fascinating viewing… “It’s kind of like… no wait, it’s more of a… Wow, I have no idea what it is, but it’s different…”

The Catalyst Fire is the rhapsodic follow up to Dead Letter Circus’ hit debut album This is the Warning. Both albums hit #2 on the national Australian ARIA charts and spawned radio single after radio single.

Teaming up once again with long-term producer and collaborator Forrester Savell (Karnivool, The Butterfly Effect), the members of Dead Letter Circus – Kim Benzie (vocals), Luke Williams (drums), Stewart Hill (bass), Tom Skerlj (guitar/keyboard) and Clint Vincent (guitar) are thrilled to see The Catalyst Fire released in North American via The End Records.

The 11 tracks (plus three bonus tracks) on the album marks a clear progression of the traditional Dead Letter Circus sound, while retaining the energy and intensity they are known and loved for.

The group has been gathering attention from Commercial Rock Radio here in the US with their lead single/video track ‘Lodestar’. Thus far the track has gathered multiple full time regular rotation adds and has received featured airplay from the likes of WHJY/Providence, WYBB/Charleston, WKRL/Syracuse and WWBN/Flint!

The opulent artwork for The Catalyst Fire was created by revered artist/photographer Cameron Gray (Parable Visions) working on a concept first seen by vocalist Kim Benzie in the Amazonian rainforest by Klara Soukalova with Pat Fox handling the logo design and overall layout.

Upon speaking with The Brag Benzie explains, “At the end of 2010, the band and our producer Forrester Savell travelled to the Amazon and to Peru. We went to a jungle city called lquitos. We went right up the river and trekked into the jungle and we stayed at this retreat there with this tribe. I met the most incredible woman there, Klara.” Benzie continues. “She is a shamanic artist there and an apprentice shaman. She made this symbolic artwork and it has lines and patterns that don’t repeat; it was the most intricate artwork I’ve ever seen. It was like seeing the artwork of an alien race. I told her what we sing about, and it was one of those ‘meant to be’ moments.”

“I came back and showed the guys. We asked her to do artwork for us. We started with Cameron Gray, our artist on our last album, to create the DLC mandala. We wanted to tie it into the theme of the album. We wanted people from any walk of life, from the yoga guru to the brick layer, to stand in front of it and have some kind of experience. That way everyone can know what our album’s about.”

More on Dead Letter Circus:

When Dead Letter Circus blasted onto Australian airwaves in 2007, their bombastic yet nuanced take on alternative rock left most observers struggling to process what they were hearing. It was epic, it oozed confidence, it was intense and open all at once. It was the debut of a sound so fresh and unique that it was hard to classify.

Part of the beauty of the soaring, sing-a-long choruses, chiming atmospherics and delay soaked tones of Dead Letter Circus is their escape from easy classification via labels or scenes. But with two #2 records, and This is the Warning going Gold, the message is clear – it’s music that resonates.

With the last 5 national tours SOLD OUT, the band’s videos getting international airplay, and huge stadium shows with Muse and Linkin Park, in 2011 the band lit up the main stage of the Big Day Out outdoor mega-festivals, and scored two songs in the world-famous triple j (Australia’s nationally networked radio station) Hottest 100 Poll. More recently, DLC were voted into triple j’s Hottest Australian Albums of All Time, toured the United States three times, played SxSW, sold out shows in the UK, headlined festivals in South Africa, were voted as one of Red Bull’s Top 11 Rock Acts, a host of US rock and college radio stations jumped onboard, and Total Guitar UK ranked them in their Best Guitar Albums of the Year.
